Just one day after New York City declared a state of emergency over severe flash flooding, Brooklyn residents were rocked by another disaster — this time, from below.
A shocking video circulating online shows a violent explosion erupting from underground. Flames shot several feet into the air as a manhole cover blasted into the sky. Thick black smoke followed as first responders scrambled to secure the area.
Officials blamed the explosion on a “manhole incident,” citing a possible electrical fire. But locals aren’t convinced.
“This doesn’t feel like an accident,” one resident posted on X. “Yesterday we were swimming in the subway, today it’s fireballs in the street. What is going on?”
Emergency services have yet to release a full report, and no injuries have been confirmed. But the timing — immediately after one of the city’s worst flood events in years — has sparked a wave of speculation and fear.
Many are asking whether New York’s infrastructure is being pushed past its limit… or if something else is happening underground.
