Hope Turns to Horror

Fabian had been missing since last Friday. His mother reported him gone when he failed to return home as planned. What followed became one of the largest search operations in recent years. Police, firefighters, and hundreds of volunteers scoured the region.

Authorities combed every area around Güstrow using dogs, drones, and posters. A lead in the forest near Zehna raised hope but ended in disappointment. On Monday, cadaver-sniffing dogs alerted authorities near the shore of an island lake. Divers searched for hours, but found nothing.

Terrible Discovery

On Tuesday morning, a walker found a child’s body in a remote field near Klein Upahl, about 15 kilometers from Fabian’s home. She immediately alerted the police. Investigators quickly cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence.

Initial findings suggested the body was likely Fabian. On Wednesday, relatives were asked to identify him but refused. Harald Nowak, spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office, explained that the family’s decision was understandable. A DNA test, expected Friday, will provide final confirmation.

Authorities confirmed that traces on the body point to a violent crime. Investigators are withholding further details about the injuries and circumstances to protect the investigation.

Last Sighting at the Bus Stop?

Fabian may have last been seen at a bus stop on Eisenbahnstraße, near a small kebab shop. Snack bar owner Ahmet Bilbaj (55) recalls a boy he believed was Fabian playing in autumn leaves outside his store. Bilbaj told him to go to his mother, a woman seated nearby. Later, he realized the boy didn’t belong to her.

Minutes later, a blue bus arrived, and Fabian vanished from sight. Police sniffer dogs followed his trail from the bus stop but lost it near Eisenbahnstraße. It remains unclear whether Fabian boarded a bus. One line travels to Zehna, where his father lives, and authorities investigated this route early in the search.

Police Work Around the Clock

Since the grim discovery, investigators have worked nonstop. Sniffer dogs and forensic teams examined the site meticulously. So far, no suspect has been identified, but all leads are being followed.

The town of Güstrow remains in shock. Residents left candles, stuffed animals, and flowers outside St. Mary’s Church as silent tributes to the boy. The community waits anxiously, united in hope that the perpetrator will be caught and justice will be served.
