Mother puts both daughters inside the fir… See more

A young mother from Cedar Falls drew widespread attention this week after rushing into a nearby fire station with her two daughters, urgently seeking help. Officials say the woman, Emma Lowell, arrived shaken and out of breath, carrying both toddlers as she pleaded for assistance. Firefighters reported that she reacted swiftly and wisely when she sensed that something was wrong during their walk through a neighborhood park.

Emma told responders that her girls suddenly started coughing and seemed unusually light-headed after playing near some thick bushes. Unsure of what had triggered their symptoms, she ran straight to the closest safe location—the Cedar Falls Fire Station, only a short distance away. Firefighters immediately assessed the children’s breathing, provided oxygen, and called paramedics to conduct a further medical evaluation.

Doctors later determined that the girls had suffered an unexpected allergic reaction, likely caused by pollen or contact with a plant in the park. Thankfully, due to their mother’s rapid response and the firefighters’ prompt assistance, both children recovered within a few hours. Medical staff stressed that Emma’s quick decision to get help was essential.

The Cedar Falls Fire Department commended Emma for remaining focused and taking action under pressure. Residents in the community have also expressed support, noting how quickly situations like this can arise. The family has since returned home and is doing well, offering a reminder to others to stay attentive when kids are exploring outdoors.
