That\u2019s when I realized the mom wasn\u2019t staring at me with disapproval like the others were. Instead, she was staring at me with understanding. She made an extra effort to make me feel welcome and important when she saw how uncomfortable I was. I still remember that day after almost 20 years. I still get mad when I think about those mean kids and their cruel parents who made my day terrible.
