\nMy neighbor called at 3 a.m. He yelled, \u201cWake up! There\u2019s a man in your backyard!\u201d Terrified, I ran to the back but found no one. The next day, my dad\u2019s Rolex had vanished. Worried, my neighbor and I installed security cams in our homes.
\nMonths later, the police visited me. My blood ran cold when they revealed they had found my Rolex at my neighbor\u2019s house. His son had been caught stealing from another home just a few blocks away.<\/p>\n

It turned out the father and son were in on it together. While the dad distracted me with his call, his son had already snuck inside, grabbed the watch from my room, and slipped out without me noticing. I was stunned. \nWe\u00a0also got a\u00a0discount for paying in\u00a0full\u2014$874\u00a0upfront. Well, the two-week mark goes\u00a0by, nothing. One week, I\u00a0email multiple times, try calling, nothing. I\u00a0then go\u00a0on\u00a0Yelp to\u00a0see what\u00a0I can find, only to\u00a0discover dozens of\u00a0reviews of\u00a0people saying no\u00a0one showed\u00a0up.

Someone called my grandmother last week, saying her granddaughter had been in an bad incident and the police had taken her to jail. A man pretended to be an attorney and asked my grandmother to send $4,000 for bail. Her \u201cgranddaughter\u201d got on the phone too and started fake-crying. I\u00a0was going to\u00a0buy a\u00a0moped off of\u00a0someone on\u00a0Craigslist. I\u00a0paid $400 in\u00a0cash, and the guy turned over the title and signed it\u00a0over to\u00a0me. We\u00a0also met near his house, and\u00a0I had a\u00a0direct line to\u00a0call him. I\u00a0went to\u00a0pick it\u00a0up\u00a0a\u00a0few hours later with a\u00a0larger vehicle, and the dude ghosted.

\nIt was a sca:m that I caught before she did anything. The check was real, but the money wasn\u2019t.
\nIf she had cashed the check, it would have shown in her account, and she would have spent money and sent most of the rest to the company.

\nTwo days later, the money was gone, and\u00a0I contacted PayPal, but because it\u00a0was a\u00a0\u201cvirtual\u201d item I\u00a0sold, they wouldn\u2019t do\u00a0anything for\u00a0me. The scammer had claimed that someone stole their account, and PayPal believed them with no\u00a0proof or\u00a0further investigation.
\nI begged and pleaded with them for weeks, but eventually broke down and accepted that I had given up my account for nothing. I\u2019d be able to deal with it fine now, but at 15, I was devastated beyond words.
