But recently, he started cleaning the kitchen and taking out the trash regularly. He said he wanted to be more attentive, and I was thrilled. That is, until last Saturday.<\/p>\n

On Friday, George once again cleaned the kitchen and took the trash out. But since we had guests that evening, the next morning, I went to throw out the trash.<\/p>\n

While I was killing myself with night shifts at the hospital, George was wining and dining other women in my home. He was laughing with them in the very space where our family had shared so many meals.<\/p>\n

He had been using my late nights to cover for himself. He was cleaning up, erasing any trace of his dirty little secrets.<\/p>\n

I felt sick to my core. I could\u2019ve confronted him right there. I could have demanded answers.<\/p>\n

But I didn\u2019t. I had to make him feel the way I did. I had to break down every bit of self-worth he had.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\u201cMaybe the universe wasn\u2019t pranking you, Whit,\u201d I told myself later as I got ready for work. \u201cMaybe it was just giving you an opportunity to teach George a lesson.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later that week, I set the stage.<\/p>\n

I invited all of George\u2019s friends over, some of his colleagues, and our family, except the kids. These were the people who looked up to him, respected him, and even loved him.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot for long,\u201d I said to myself.<\/p>\n

Everyone was excited and eager to celebrate George. To make it even better, I told them that it was a surprise party. Nobody was allowed to say a word.<\/p>\n

That night, while George thought I was working another late shift, I waited outside with everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t make a sound!\u201d I said. \u201cThis is going to be the surprise of a lifetime!\u201d<\/p>\n

As we moved around to the back of the house, we saw George.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

He was in our living room, wrapped up with another woman. They didn\u2019t even notice us at first. Their limbs were too caught up in each other.<\/p>\n

He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out.<\/p>\n

The whispers began. Suddenly, George\u2019s brain seemed to kick in and he stammered, trying to explain, but the damage was done.<\/p>\n

Everyone had seen the truth.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

I watched my husband crumble. The man who thought that he had everything figured out, who thought he could hide his lies forever, was now standing in the wreckage of his own making.<\/p>\n

His parents went at him, while the guests stood around awkwardly, not sure what to do. I was just glad that George was being exposed for who he really was.<\/p>\n

I went upstairs and began to pack my things. I was going to leave the house behind, the memories, and the lies.<\/p>\n
