In a vote by the House Democrats\u2019 Steering and Policy Committee, centrist Democrat Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia defeated socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York in her attempt to become the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee.<\/p>\n
According to several lawmakers who were present at the voting, Ocasio-Cortez lost Monday\u2019s vote to Connolly 34 to 27.<\/p>\n
Democrats\u2019 largest caucus, the New Democrat Coalition, supported Connolly for Oversight ranking member before Friday\u2019s vote.<\/p>\n

However, the entire Democratic caucus must still vote to endorse the Steering Committee\u2019s choice, even after Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s defeat on Monday.<\/p>\n
Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s bid was being deliberately thwarted by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who recently won reelection, according to a report published by Punchbowl News.<\/p>\n

Ocasio-Cortez had cause to rejoice when Pelosi resigned as head of the Democratic caucus, according to a book written by left-wing writer Ryan Grim last year.<\/p>\n
