Although his neighbors\u2019 properties were left to rubble, a US businessman has explained why he believes his property was saved from the flames of the wildfires in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

After the Palisades fire destroyed his neighborhood, David Steiner\u2019s $9 million Malibu villa is the only one still intact on his property.<\/p>\n

Over 20,000 acres have been destroyed by the fire, which was one of eight that were burning throughout the Los Angeles County, though firefighters have now put out three of them.<\/p>\n

Additionally, it has destroyed more than 5,000 homes and businesses; according to Sky News, it was the \u201cbiggest\u201d to yet.<\/p>\n

Although authorities believe that the Kenneth fire, which threatens homes near Calabasas and Hidden Hills, was purposeful, strong winds and a lack of rain are said to have made the fires worse. A guy was arrested on suspicion of arson after people reportedly held him until police arrived.<\/p>\n

As the infernos continue to wreak havoc on Los Angeles, a number of celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Anna Faris, Eugene Levy, and Billy Crystal, have lost their homes in recent days.<\/p>\n

Steiner was therefore taken aback to discover that his property had survived the area\u2019s consuming towering flames.<\/p>\n

When a local contractor emailed him a video of smoke and flames ripping through the street on Tuesday, January 7, the retired waste-management tycoon assumed his three-story house, which was empty at the time, was doomed.<\/p>\n

\u201c[The contractor] was watching the news reports and saw my neighbor\u2019s house going down and told me, \u2018It looks like your house is going too\u2019,\u201d Steiner stated to the New York Post.<\/p>\n

People then started contacting the New Orleans business tycoon to let him know that his \u201chouse was all over the news,\u201d but not for the reason he had anticipated.<\/p>\n

The mansion was observed towering tall opposite to its devastated neighbors, like a phoenix emerging from the ashes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started getting pictures and realised we had made it through,\u201d Steiner continued. \u201cMy wife sent me something this morning that said, \u2018Last house standing\u2019. And it brought a pretty big smile to my face at a pretty bad time.\u201d<\/p>\n

He believes that the 4,200-square-foot, four-bedroom house\u2019s design, which he describes as \u201cbuilt like a cruise ship,\u201d is what made it withstand the destructive fire.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has an \u2018ultra-sturdy construction\u2019 and was built to withstand earthquakes,\u201d the father of three said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s stucco and stone with a fireproof roof,\u201d Steiner explained, while adding that it also boasts pilings \u2018like 50 feet into the bedrock\u2019 which keep it steady when strong waves crash in.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be totally honest with you, I never in a million years thought a wildfire would jump to the Pacific Coast Highway and start a fire,\u201d Steiner said. \u201cI thought, \u2018If we ever have an earthquake, this would be the last thing to go\u2019. I honestly didn\u2019t think that if we had a fire, this would be the last thing to go. And it was.\u201c<\/p>\n

\u201cThe architecture is pretty nice. But the stucco and fireproof roof are real nice.\u201d<\/p>\n

He knows that he is one of the fortunate people in Los Angeles at the moment, even if he is grateful that his mansion escaped the fire.<\/p>\n

Since Steiner bought the pad after two of his sons were already enrolled in nearby schools, his home was not the permanent abode of his family.<\/p>\n

Hesaid: \u201cI was getting texts from people saying, \u2018We\u2019re praying for you. It\u2019s so horrible\u2019. I said, \u2018Don\u2019t pray for me; what I lost is material goods.\u2019 I lost a property, but others lost their homes. I didn\u2019t have my family\u2019s memories there. It wasn\u2019t my family home. My heart goes out to those who lost their homes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The billionaire stated that even though he had insurance, it will only \u201ccover 50% for a wildfire\u201d and that he thinks his estate will have sustained some smoke damage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
