The president, vice president, and a host of Democrats celebrated on Friday the ratification of the \u201c28th Amendment\u201d to the Constitution, the Equal Rights Amendment or ERA,<\/p>\n
but there is just one minor issue. The Amendment has, in fact, not been ratified, according to several constitutional experts. What\u2019s more, the president does not have the authority to simply declare an amendment ratified.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have supported the Equal Rights Amendment for more than 50 years, and I have long been clear that no one should be discriminated against based on their sex. <\/p>\n
We, as a nation, must affirm and protect women\u2019s full equality once and for all,\u201d the president said in a press release posted to the official White House page.<\/p>\n
On January 27, 2020, the Commonwealth of Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. The American Bar Association (ABA) has recognized that the Equal Rights Amendment has cleared all necessary <\/p>\n
hurdles to be formally added to the Constitution as the 28th Amendment. I agree with the ABA and with leading legal constitutional scholars that the Equal Rights Amendment has become part of our Constitution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is long past time to recognize the will of the American people. In keeping with my oath and duty to Constitution and country, I affirm what I believe and what <\/p>\n
