Wicker dismissed the affidavit claiming that Samantha Hegseth once hid in her closet out of fe\u00a0 ar for her safety from the nominee.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have not reviewed the document. My reaction is that I have grave doubts as to the substance,\u201d he said, pointing to Samatha\u2019s own statement that there was no \u201cphy s ical abu s\u00a0 e\u201d during her marriage. \u201cI think the nomination is going to go forward and the next vote is going to be Thursday,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Wicker added that Democrats could delay a final vote on Hegseth until \u201clate on Friday night.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a retired Air Force lawyer and a key Republican voice on national security matters, dismissed the latest allegation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI heard what his wife said. It didn\u2019t happen. I\u2019m getting tired of this stuff being dropped at the last moment,\u201d Graham said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou got the person who denies being physically abused. That\u2019s it for me,\u201d he said. Asked about the sworn claims from Hegseth\u2019s former sister-in-law that the nominee frequently drank to excess, Graham dismissed the question: \u201cNah, I\u2019m good,\u201d adding that he\u2019ll vote to confirm Hegseth.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Democrats continued to pretend like the last-minute allegation was valid despite Samantha Hegseth\u2019s denial.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese firsthand observations are highly significant and credible and hopefully will persuade my Republican colleagues that Hegseth is unfit to be secretary of Defense,\u201d said Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Armed Services panel.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no question that Pete Hegseth is unqualified and unprepared to be secretary of Defense. The affidavit adds additional weight to a case that is already overwhelming against him,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Senators plan to move on Hegseth after voting earlier on Thursday to confirm former Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas), as CIA director. The Hill noted. Ratcliffe, a former federal prosecutor, served a stint as director of national intelligence during Trump\u2019s first term.<\/p>\n
Republicans tried to confirm Ratcliffe to his post on Tuesday evening but met resistance from Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).<\/p>\n
\u201cI just think we should have a full debate on Ratcliffe. A lot of us have real reservations about somebody with a history of politicizing intelligence like they demanded a full debate on most all of Biden\u2019s Cabinet and sub-Cabinet nominees,\u201d Murphy told The Hill.<\/p>\n
