A 54-year-old woman who was found guilty of torturing her teenage daughter to death has been sentenced to life in prison by a court in France.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sandrine Pissarra must serve at least 20 years behind bars before she may be eligible for parole following the death of her 13-year-old daughter, Amandine, in August 2020.<\/p>\n

According to prosecutors in the case, Amandine suffered\u00a0abuse\u00a0such as punches, kicks, hair pulls and attacks using a broom from a very young age.<\/p>\n

She lost several teeth and had her hair pulled out, and was locked for weeks in a windowless storage room, being watched by cameras while also being deprived of food.<\/p>\n

At the time of her death, Amandine, who stood at five feet and one inch tall, weighed just 62 pounds. A medical report on Amandine\u2019s death detailed how she had suffered extreme weight and muscle loss, as well as septicaemia \u2013 blood\u00a0poisoning\u00a0which is often caused by bacteria or their toxins.<\/p>\n

Pissarra was taken in for questioning after Amandine\u2019s death in the village of\u00a0Montblanc, and claimed at the time that Amandine had suffered with\u00a0eating disorders.<\/p>\n

The mom claimed that on the day her daughter died, Amandine had agreed to eat a piece of sugar, some fruit puree and a high-protein\u00a0drink, after which she started to vomit and stopped breathing.<\/p>\n

However, upon investigation, the magistrate in charge of the case said there was \u2018no doubt\u2019 Amandine had suffered violence from her mother, who has eight children from three relationships.<\/p>\n

A psychiatric assessment conducted on Pissarra and cited by\u00a0AFP\u00a0found that the mother was seeking to \u2018transfer her hatred\u2019 of Amandine\u2019s father onto her daughter\u2019s body through the torture.<\/p>\n

Amandine had suffered years of abuse, the court heard (BFM TV)<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to the\u00a0Metro, Pissarra admitted in court that she had abused her daughter because \u2018she looked like her father\u2019.<\/p>\n

The mother was taken into custody in May 2021, and her case was more recently brought in front of a panel of three professional judges and six members of the public serving as a jury, who agreed on the life sentence \u2013 the maximum possible for the crime.<\/p>\n

Pissarra\u2019s ex-partner, Jean-Michel Cros, has also been sentenced to 20 years in prison after a prosecutor claimed he had been a \u2018collaborator\u2019 who \u2018deprived Amandine of care until her death\u2019.<\/p>\n

Pissarra\u2019s lawyers argued that other adults involved in Amandine\u2019s life should have acknowledged a \u2018collective responsibility\u2019 for the young girl\u2019s care, and asked that the mother receive a \u2018fair, reasonable sentence\u2019.<\/p>\n

In her final statement to the court, Pissarra said: \u201cI want to apologize to my children, that\u2019s all.\u201d<\/p>\n
