Checked into a\u00a0beautiful beach house rental in\u00a0Mexico. Everything was perfect\u2014the host was friendly, the place looked just like the photos. The next morning, I woke up to banging on the door.<\/p>\n

The real owner showed\u00a0up, furious\u2014it was a\u00a0scam. The person who rented it\u00a0to\u00a0me\u00a0had broken\u00a0in, listed it\u00a0online, and disappeared with my\u00a0money. The police said this happened all the time and couldn\u2019t do\u00a0much. I\u00a0spent the rest of\u00a0my\u00a0trip in\u00a0a\u00a0cheap\u00a0motel\u00a0next to\u00a0a\u00a0construction site.<\/p>\n

They insisted my\u00a0specific ticket required one. The airline staff refused to\u00a0help. By\u00a0the time\u00a0I got it\u00a0sorted, my\u00a0flight had left. I\u00a0had to\u00a0pay for a\u00a0new ticket and spend 14\u00a0hours stuck in\u00a0the airport, furious and exhausted.<\/p>\n

Story 5:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A\u00a0flight from Florida to\u00a0California. My\u00a0family of\u00a0four got split\u00a0up, and my\u00a0mom, sister, and dad got to\u00a0sit next to\u00a0each other. I\u00a0was in\u00a0between a\u00a0man and a\u00a0woman. They ended up\u00a0getting into a\u00a0pretty heated argument about the New Jersey Nets, with me\u00a0in\u00a0the middle. I\u00a0reserved a\u00a0nice, mid-range hotel at\u00a0a\u00a0tropical destination in\u00a0advance. Arrived at\u00a0check-in, and the receptionist looked nervous. \u201cWe\u2019re fully booked,\u201d he\u00a0said. I\u00a0showed my\u00a0confirmation, and he\u00a0just apologized.<\/p>\n

Turns out, they intentionally overbooked, assuming people would cancel. They offered a\u00a0\u201cpartner hotel\u201d nearby, which was a\u00a0run-down dump with no\u00a0hot water. I\u00a0had to\u00a0fight for days to\u00a0get even a\u00a0partial refund.<\/p>\n

Fast-forward to\u00a0four years later, I\u00a0was in\u00a0a\u00a0better place, working at\u00a0a\u00a0much more comfortable company, and\u00a0I decided to\u00a0take the trip I\u2019d always dreamed\u00a0of. I\u00a0even splurged on\u00a0a\u00a0business class ticket.<\/p>\n

When I\u00a0sat down on\u00a0the plane, I\u00a0realized my\u00a0ex-boss, that horrible one, was sitting next to\u00a0me. He\u00a0frowned, looked me\u00a0up\u00a0and down, and called over the stewardess. He\u00a0whispered to\u00a0her, and she nodded before disappearing.<\/p>\n

On our honeymoon in Europe, we got a call that my MIL had a heart att.ack.
