I\u2019m 65, and I\u2019m really tired. I worked 3 jobs while also taking care of my husband Christopher after his harsh accident.<\/p>\n

We\u2019d been together for 32 years. I never complained \u2013 I mean, love is worth everything.<\/p>\n
One day, I was coming home from another city on the bus, tired AS HELL. It was so stuffy I felt sick. This woman next to me agreed to switch seats so I could move to the window.<\/p>\n

I looked out at the window\u2026and froze. Tears immediately filled my eyes.<\/p>\n
Gosh, MY HUSBAND HAD LITERALLY BETRAYED ME!<\/strong><\/h1>\n

They walked towards a car and got a bag of golf clubs.<\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t believe it. I had been working so hard for so long when my husband could clearly walk! What\u2019s happening? Why didn\u2019t he tell me?. What am I going to do with this?<\/p>\n

I worried until the bus reached my stop, and I got out. I had left my car in a parking lot nearby, so I retrieved it and drove home.<\/p>\n
Once there, I paced around my house. What if this is something new that happened at Bruce\u2019s house this weekend? What if he wants to surprise me? Yes, that has to be it, I finally decided and calmed down. My husband would get home later that Sunday and surprise me by walking.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, honey. How was your trip?\u201d Christopher asked when Bruce rolled him into the living room.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, hey, you two. It was fun. What about you guys? What did you do?\u201d I asked the men with a big smile, waiting for them to surprise me.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe did the same thing as always. The game on Friday was fun, and then we spent a lot of time playing games,\u201d Bruce said dismissively and bid us goodbye.<\/p>\n

I served Christopher a nice dinner of spaghetti and meatballs and sat down at the kitchen table with him. \u201cSo, that\u2019s all you guys did?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, Bruce has a golf course at home. You could\u2019ve played,\u201d Barbra added, trying to bring the subject up subtly.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still don\u2019t have the hang of playing in a wheelchair, so that\u2019s a no. But we had a ton of fun, honey. You always worry about me, and I love you for it,\u201d Christopher answered, drinking a bit of soda and acting like nothing was wrong.<\/p>\n
Suddenly, I slammed my fork on the table. \u201cReally? Really? You don\u2019t have the hang of playing in a wheelchair?\u201d I yelled.<\/p>\n
Christopher looked at me with wide eyes and an innocent face. \u201cWhat? Honey, it\u2019s hard to play golf in a wheelchair. You can\u2019t control your swing well\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n
He tried to justify his answer, but I cut him off. \u201cI SAW YOU! I saw you walking around, getting golf clubs from Bruce\u2019s car, and swinging around all happy like a kid at Christmas! Christopher! I WANT THE TRUTH RIGHT NOW!\u201d<\/p>\n

Christopher\u2019s mouth opened and closed like a fish in an aquarium, but he had nothing to say. I waited for him to deny it, but he only asked,<\/p>\n
\u201cHow?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMy bus goes by Bruce\u2019s house, and you just happened to be getting the clubs when it passed by. Christopher, you mean to tell me that you\u2019ve been lying to me? For how long?\u201d I asked in the most severe tone I could muster without getting emotional.<\/p>\n
My husband finally sighed and revealed the truth.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I\u2019ve been lying. It\u2019s been around a year and a half. I just didn\u2019t want to go back to work.\u201d<\/strong><\/h1>\nFor illustration purposes only<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\u201cARE YOU KIDDING ME?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease, calm down. It\u2019s not a big deal. Your work was getting us by, and I just wanted a break after all those years. I also loved how attentive you were to me. It\u2019s been the best year and a half of my life,\u201d Christopher explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve been lying to me for a year and a half,\u201d I repeated. \u201cMy work was getting us by\u2026 do you know how hard I\u2019ve been working, so we didn\u2019t have to scale back on our lives? Where do you go when I take you to physical therapy?\u201d<\/p>\n
He flinched at my screams. \u201cPlease, don\u2019t yell at me. I lie to the therapist too.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHow long has Bruce known about this?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSince I started walking again,\u201d Christopher revealed.<\/p>\n
I took a deep breath and thought about my options at that moment. Everyone knows that making decisions when angry is not a good idea, so I wanted to have a clear head. But there was only one option right now.<\/p>\n
I stood from the table, grabbed the same bag I had brought over from Destin, and went to stay at my mother\u2019s house. I cried heavily that night and for several days while Christopher called and texted constantly. Everyone in my family was shocked by the deception and didn\u2019t know how we could come back from that.<\/p>\n
We couldn\u2019t. I filed for divorce after a month at my mother\u2019s house and never saw Christopher again. I emptied our shared bank accounts, quit all my jobs, and traveled the world for a year to make up for all that wasted effort.
