I was 24, an only child, and trying to keep peace between both sides of a broken family. The divorce had hit hard during my junior year of high school. It was sudden, unexplained, and messy. One day we were eating dinner as a family, and the next, my dad was packing up half the house.<\/p>\n

He later blamed it on \u201cempty nest panic,\u201d saying he and my mom had just grown apart. But when he started dating Debra almost immediately afterward, I began to question if that version of events was even close to the truth.<\/p>\n
