She served her country overseas. She served her city with compassion. But just days after celebrating her birthday with a trip to Miami, 26-year-old New Orleans police officer\u00a0Wildelis Rosa<\/strong>\u00a0was gone.<\/p>\n

A Gift Turned Tragic<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Rosa had just returned from a military deployment in Kuwait when she decided to treat herself to a popular cosmetic procedure, the\u00a0Brazilian butt lift<\/strong>, or BBL. She told her family she was heading to Florida to celebrate her birthday. What she didn\u2019t say was that she had booked an appointment at\u00a0Prestige Plastic Surgery Clinic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

She arrived in Miami on March 18. The next day, she underwent surgery that involved removing fat from 12 areas of her body and injecting it into her buttocks. The procedure cost\u00a0$7,495<\/strong>, and Rosa was\u00a0discharged just one hour later<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\u201cExtreme Pain\u201d and Silence<\/strong><\/h3>\n

From the moment she began recovery, something felt off. Rosa was in\u00a0\u201cextreme pain\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0at her follow-up appointment. At the short-term rental where she stayed with a friend, her symptoms worsened. Her bl0*d pressure dropped., her lips turned purple and her legs went numb.<\/p>\n

She texted her friend that she was having \u201ccomplications.\u201d Later that day, she finally told her family about the surgery. Her older sister,\u00a0Anamin Vazquez<\/strong>, said the text messages stopped soon after.<\/p>\n

\u201cI texted her and said, \u2018I hope you\u2019re doing okay. You\u2019re enjoying your birthday.\u2019 But there was no answer back.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Rosa c*llapsed in the bathroom that night. Her friend found her unresponsive the next morning and performed CPR. But it was too late.<\/p>\n

Official Cause of D**th<\/strong><\/h3>\n

According to the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner, Rosa d**d from a\u00a0pulmonary embolism<\/strong>, which is a bl0*d clot in the lungs often linked to post-surgical complications.<\/p>\n

Officials said Prestige Plastic Surgery\u00a0did not neglect<\/strong>\u00a0Rosa, but her family believes doctors missed clear warning signs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the part that we have to live with,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0her sister said.\u00a0\u201cIt was unnecessary for her to d*e \u2026 to d*e like that.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
