He explained the situation, emphasizing the unauthorized removal and the conversation we had seen between Mr. Collins and the mysterious workers. The officer on the other end promised to send someone over to investigate, but the uncertainty lingered in the air.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, my mother found solace in the garden, tending to the flower beds that had once thrived under the tree\u2019s protective canopy. She spoke softly to the flowers as if reassuring them\u2014and perhaps herself\u2014that everything would be alright. My sister, younger and fiery, took to the internet, researching local laws on tree removal and property disputes. She was a force to be reckoned with, and I was grateful to have her on our side.<\/p>\n

Mr. Collins answered the door, his face a blend of concern and something else\u2014a subtle defiance we hadn\u2019t noticed before. When we confronted him with the footage and the city\u2019s message, his demeanor shifted.<\/p>\n

As the days stretched on, the officer returned with an update. \u201cWe\u2019ve identified the truck from the footage,\u201d he informed us. \u201cIt belongs to a local contractor, but they claim they have no record of a job at your address.\u201d<\/p>\n

With suspicion hanging heavy in the air, we realized this was far from over. The officer promised to keep us updated, but the sense of violation was palpable.<\/p>\n
