Detective Sanchez, now flanked by two uniformed officers, approached us with urgency. \u201cWe need to move you to a secure location. There\u2019s a team on the way to escort you. We\u2019re dealing with serious criminal activity here \u2013 possibly child trafficking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emma gasped, clutching the baby protectively to her chest. \u201cWhat? No\u2026 no, this can\u2019t be happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

I wrapped an arm around her shoulders, trying to lend her strength I wasn\u2019t entirely sure I possessed myself. \u201cWe\u2019ll figure this out, Em. Just stay calm. Detective Sanchez and her team will handle it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniel paced the room, his mind clearly racing through possibilities. Ever the strategist, he was probably planning three steps ahead. \u201cThe call on the monitor was likely traced,\u201d he muttered to Sanchez. \u201cWe should prepare for an attempted breach.\u201d<\/p>\n

She nodded, already issuing commands into her radio. The hospital staff was instructed to clear the floor, and additional officers were stationed outside the room. The atmosphere was tense, the air heavy with anticipation.<\/p>\n

Minutes felt like hours as we waited, the silence punctuated only by the baby\u2019s gentle snores. Finally, the door swung open to reveal a tactical unit, their presence both reassuring and daunting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re ready to move,\u201d their leader stated. \u201cQuickly now, before they can regroup.\u201d<\/p>\n

We hustled down the hallway, Daniel and I flanking Emma, Sanchez and her officers forming a protective circle around us. My heart pounded in my chest, adrenaline coursing through my veins.<\/p>\n

As we reached the secure exit, the voice crackled over the radio again. \u201cYou can run, but you can\u2019t hide.\u201d<\/p>\n

But we were already out the door, into the waiting vehicles, and racing away from the hospital. Away from the danger. Away from the nightmare we had inadvertently stumbled into.<\/p>\n

As the city blurred past, I glanced back at Emma and the baby. My sister\u2019s eyes were red-rimmed, holding her son tight, determined to protect him.<\/p>\n

Daniel took my hand, his grip reassuring. \u201cWe\u2019ll get to the bottom of this,\u201d he promised.<\/p>\n
