Here\u2019s an email we got from Jude:
\nHello, Bright Side,<\/p>\n
My ex-wife passed away three weeks ago in a car accident. My son Jake (14) was really close to her, and he\u2019s been a mess since.<\/p>\n
About a week ago, Jake started having really bad nightmares. He\u2019d wake up screaming and shaking. I started sleeping in his room because it helped.<\/p>\n
He could see me, and it calmed him down enough to fall back asleep.<\/p>\n
My wife, Sarah (we\u2019ve been married 2 years), didn\u2019t say anything at first.
\nBut on night 5, she snapped at me. \u201cStop this already, this is sick\u2014he\u2019s 14!\u201d I told her I don\u2019t care how old he is if he needs me right now. She got quiet and went to bed.<\/p>\n
A few hours later, I woke up. Jake\u2019s door was open. I could hear Sarah talking to him.<\/p>\n
I walked closer.<\/p>\n
She was sitting on his bed in the dark, holding his hand and saying, \u201cLet\u2019s keep this between us. Your mom wasn\u2019t even around that much anyway. And now you\u2019re making your dad choose.<\/p>\n
You\u2019re not 6 anymore, men your age don\u2019t act like this.\u201d I froze. My 14-year-old kid, who just lost his mom, was being told he\u2019s the problem.<\/p>\n
She was \u201chelping him grow up.\u201d
\nSarah came out and looked surprised to see me. She tried to explain she was \u201chelping him grow up\u201d and that I was \u201cmaking it worse by coddling him.\u201d I told her she had no right to say that to him, especially now.<\/p>\n
She said I was being \u201cemotionally manipulated by a teenager\u201d and that Jake was \u201cplaying it up for attention.\u201d
\nThen she added that I\u2019m choosing my son over our marriage and that she is going to live at her sister\u2019s until this whole weird thing is over.<\/p>\n
And now I\u2019m not even sure if I want her back here.<\/p>\n
