Things went from annoyingly vapid to full-on âIdiocracyâ in Congress during a late-night House Oversight committee meeting on the markup of a resolution to hold Biden Administration Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress,
a resolution championed by many conservatives disgusted over his handling of the border crisis. Even Sen. John Fetterman compared the embarrassing incident to the Jerry Springer Show.
Particularly, the event resembled âIdiocracy,â many on X (formerly Twitter) argued, because numerous representatives, namely Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Jasmine Crockett cattily sniped at each other in an argument that turned into a shouting match, with nothing of substance discussed and ridiculous, ad-hominem barbs exchanged.
As background, âThe Jerry Springer Show,â which Sen. Fetterman compared the incident to, is a decades-running reality show that features ridiculous family and interpersonal drama.
It is described on Apple TV as âLoaded with bleeped profanity and guests who arenât afraid to embarrass themselves on national TV, âJerry Springerâ features a host who is the anti-Oprah, aiming his show squarely at viewers who rubberneck at traffic accidents.â
Sen. Fetterman, commenting on the embarrassing shouting match and insult exchange in a post on X that included a screenshot of a CNN headline about the ridiculous incident, said that to compare it to the reality show would be an insult to that show. He wrote âIn the past, Iâve described the U.S. House as The Jerry Springer Show. Today, Iâm apologizing to The Jerry Springer Show.â
Rep. AOC then angrily attacked him on X with a wild post in which she bizarrely accused him of not being sufficiently against âracism and misogynyâ and suggested that he had become a âbully.â She began by saying, âI understand you likely would not have stood up for your colleague and seem to be confused about racism and misogyny being a âboth sidesâ issue.â
Continuing, she said, âBut I stand up to bullies, instead of becoming one.â She then suggested that Sen. Fetterman doesnât stand up for âthe women of Pennsylvania,â writing, âAnd to the women of Pennsylvania: Iâd stand up for you too.â She concluded by saying, âEnjoy your Friday.â
Responding to her attacks in comments to Fox News Digital, Sen. Fettermanâs office did not apologize and instead called the incident âabsurdâ and âunhinged.â His office said, âJohn responded to an absurd screaming match of personal attacks in an unhinged House committee hearing.â
The incident that sparked the fiery exchange began when Rep. Crockett asked Rep. MTG, âDo you know what weâre here for?â MTG fired back, âI think your fake eyelashes are messing up what youâre reading.â House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer pleaded for order as the committee groaned with annoyance at the nonsense.
Undeterred, Rep. AOC jumped into the fray and snapped, âI do have a point of order, and I would like to move to take down Ms. Greenâs words. That is absolutely unacceptable. How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person⌠move her words down.â MTG said, âAre your feelings hurt?â and AOC fired back, âOh girl, baby girl! Donât even play!â
Rep. Crockett later complained about the incident on X, saying, âSo MTG wanted to talk about my appearance in COMMITTEE?! Itâs against the rules to doâŚShe refused to apologize! The chairman ruled that it was okâŚAND I asked for clarification about what qualifies as âengaging in personalitiesâ & basically wanted to know if I could talk shit about her appearance as⌠well⌠yâall know what she looks like, right? PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES! This is what happens when mentally deficient people who canât read and follow rules or just donât give a damn⌠somehow end up in CONGRESS!â
