My Daughter Wants My Brother to Walk Her Down the Aisle Instead of Me – I’m Heartbroken

My 25-year-old daughter is finally tying the knot, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I’ve worked tirelessly throughout my life to ensure she had everything she needed and more. Seeing her so happy and reaching this milestone fills me with pride, and I’ve been eagerly counting down the days to her wedding. When my daughter said she wanted my brother to walk her down the aisle, it hit me like a ton of bricks. “Why not me?” I asked. She looked uncomfortable and said, “It’s complicated, Dad.”

I spoke to my brother, hoping he’d clear things up. He hesitated but eventually admitted something shocking – during my divorce, my ex-wife revealed to our daughter that I cheated on her. And now my daughter is angry and feels like I didn’t deserve the honor. I am devastated. I realize I’ve made mistakes, but those are things from my past that have nothing to do with her. I don’t want these old issues to damage the bond I have with my daughter. What do you suggest I should do? I would very much appreciate your guidance.

Sincerely, Tom
