Trump Meets with GOP House Leaders Amid Budget Debate and Rising Approval Ratings

President Donald Trump is set to meet with GOP House leaders on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming vote on the Senate’s version of his budget resolution.

This meeting comes at a crucial time, as House Republicans remain divided on the measure. The President’s involvement aims to help sway dissenting lawmakers and push for a successful vote in the House.

In conjunction with the meeting, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) will hold a fundraiser that evening,

with Trump as the guest of honor. This event highlights Trump’s continued influence within the Republican Party, particularly in the midst of key legislative battles.

The Budget Debate: Trump Pushes for GOP Support

The Senate’s budget resolution, which includes significant provisions for border security and tax cuts, has sparked resistance among several House Republicans. The measure allocates $175 billion for border security and expands tax cuts that were first

implemented under Trump’s administration in 2017. However, some Republicans, including Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Andy Ogles of Tennessee, have expressed opposition to the Senate’s proposal, arguing that it does not do enough to curb spending.

Despite these objections, House Speaker Mike Johnson is reportedly planning to hold a vote on the Senate’s budget resolution as early as Wednesday. Trump’s direct involvement in lobbying GOP House members is seen as a strategic move to help overcome internal opposition and push the proposal forward.

Trump’s Rising Approval Amid Economic Concerns

While Trump’s approval ratings have historically been volatile, recent polls suggest a rise in support, even as the President faces criticism over his economic policies and trade strategies. According to a poll conducted by J.L. Partners in collaboration with the Daily Mail, Trump’s approval

rating has increased to 53 percent, a notable four-point jump from the previous week. This improvement comes despite the President’s ongoing trade war with several countries and the implementation of sweeping tariffs on Chinese imports, which have raised concerns among consumers and economists.

The increase in Trump’s favorability is particularly notable among younger voters. His approval rating among voters aged 18 to 29 has surged by 13 points since March 7, signaling a shift in support from this demographic. This is in stark contrast to the 2020 presidential election, when younger voters overwhelmingly supported Joe Biden. Trump’s ability to regain favor with this group suggests that his economic message is resonating with younger Americans, particularly those focused on job creation and economic growth.

Bipartisan Support and Growing Favorability

The Daily Mail poll also highlighted an increase in Trump’s favorability among key voter groups. His approval rating among registered Democrats and independents has risen by six percentage points, and his favorability

among Black voters has increased by 17 points. These shifts indicate that Trump’s messaging on economic issues, particularly regarding jobs and border security, may be broadening his base of support.
