‘Wheel of Fortune’ Fans Upset Over This ‘Tough’ Bonus Round Puzzle

Sources: TV Insider

“Wheel of Fortune” threw the rulebook out the window this week — and fans are loving it. In a first for the iconic game show, Monday night’s episode didn’t pit strangers against each other. Instead,

three longtime friends and colleagues from a Rhode Island fire department took the stage to battle it out for cash, bragging rights, and the ultimate title of “Best Wheel of Fortune Contestant.”

Melissa “Missy” Porter, Darrin “Poppa” Gallagher, and Tim Stebenne—who have worked side-by-side for over 20 years—weren’t just playing for money. They were playing for pride.

And the friendly competition between them was front and center. Porter joked about only making meatballs when the show’s on, Gallagher brought years of station seniority, and Stebenne compared himself to “David” taking on Goliaths.

Viewers took to social media to praise the new format. One Instagram user raved, “This is so much better than playing in teams.” Another added, “I’m confused but obsessed with this dynamic.

The twist sparked conversations across Reddit and Twitter, with many saying the camaraderie added a refreshing, human element to the high-stakes gamer.

It wasn’t just the players who made the episode unique—some fan-favorite twists returned as well. The Jackpot round made a comeback, starting at zero and climbing $500 with each spin. Whoever solved the puzzle would take the full amount,

provided they avoided the dreaded “Bankrupt.” The coveted $1 Million wedge also made an appearance, with host Ryan Seacrest keeping it in play for the Bonus Round if no one hit Bankrupt during the round.

As for gameplay, it was a close competition. Gallagher and Porter nailed the early toss-ups. Stebenne took home a trip to Iceland after solving “Love-Hate Relationship,” and followed it up with another win.

Gallagher later solved “Lush Rainforest of Panama,” scoring a second vacation prize. By the Triple Toss-Ups, Gallagher pulled ahead, claiming all three for $10,000.

In the end, Porter closed strong with “Running Neck and Neck” for $6,000, ending her night with $7,000. Stebenne left with $12,700. But it was Gallagher who took the crown—and $20,150 plus a trip to Panama.

The Bonus Round, however, proved a heartbreaker. With the category “What Are You Doing?” Gallagher selected his letters and was left staring at “TAK_NG A _ _ _ _ _.” He guessed “Taking a…” but couldn’t land on the final word: “whiff.”

Seacrest announced he’d missed out on a $40,000 prize. Viewers were quick to react, noting that this marked the 11th consecutive Bonus Round loss.

One YouTube viewer summed it up: “At this point, just let someone win already.” Another quipped, “Who even uses the word ‘whiff’ anymore?”

MY 4-YEAR-OLD SON GOT EXTREMELY UPSET EVERY TIME MY MIL BABYSAT HIM — WHEN I FOUND OUT WHY, I GOT REVENGE. I noticed that my 4-year-old son became anxious every time my mother-in-law was supposed to come over to watch him. One evening, he started crying and blurted out through his tears, “I don’t want Grandma to stay with me!” I was shocked and had to rush to the hospital for my shift, so I didn’t have time to find a replacement, but his reaction really worried me. “But why, sweetie?” I asked. “Because… Because Grandma acts strange,” he said through his tears. “What do you mean?” But at that moment, my mother-in-law walked in, and my son ran upstairs. I had an imperfect, but relatively calm relationship with my mother-in-law. She was nearby and always happy to watch her only grandson, so my son’s reaction puzzled me. I decided to figure it out as soon as I got back from my night shift. However, when I opened the door to the house in the morning, I FROZE because my son ⬇️ (Continues in comment)

THIS IS THE BOY WHO SAVED MY DAUGHTER FROM A CAR ACCIDENT—AND I ONLY FOUND OUT WHEN I SAW HIS CAST The school didn’t even call me first. I got a text from another parent—just one line: “Your daughter’s okay, but you need to get here.” My heart stopped. By the time I got to the school parking lot, the chaos had mostly settled. Teachers were ushering kids back inside. An ambulance was just pulling away. And there was my daughter—shaken but completely unharmed, clutching her backpack like it was a life vest. Then I saw him. Sitting on a folding chair outside the nurse’s office, blue cast already being wrapped around his arm. No tears. Just this calm, quiet look on his face, like none of it was a big deal. “Is that the boy who—?” I started ⬇️

A FLIGHT ATTENDANT HEARS CRYING FROM THE LAVATORY, FINDS AN ABANDONED KID THERE When Leslie passed the bathroom door, she heard a high-pitched mewling sound. Then again. “There’s no way there’s a cat on the plane… it must be something else,” she mumbled. Amy knocked on the bathroom door. When nobody replied, she opened it and peeked inside. A second later, she screamed. Leslie quickly realized that the shuddering bundle that had startled Amy was a little boy. He’d been crying and looked up at her with tearful eyes. “What the hell?!” Leslie asked the young boy who had surprised her. “What’s your name?” The boy hugged his knees and started crying again. She crouched down in front of him. The boy sniffled. “I’m Ben.” Leslie helped him up and let him sit in one of the crew jump seats while she searched the passenger list for his name. Suddenly, she frowned and checked the list again. There was no Ben on it. The full story is in the comments.
