Senator Tommy Tuberville Announces Run for Alabama Governor

Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville has officially announced his decision to leave the U.S. Senate and launch a campaign to become the next governor of his home state.

The announcement came during an interview on Fox News, where Tuberville reflected on his journey from football coach to public servant. “As you know, I coached, and it was a great time. We made some great friends,” he said. “A few years ago, I decided to give back to this great country—and today, I will announce that I will be the future governor of the great state of Alabama.”

From the Gridiron to Government

Tuberville, who had a long and successful career as head coach at Auburn University, has often drawn parallels between leadership on the football field and leadership in public service. “I’m a football coach. I’m a leader. I’m a builder. I’m a recruiter,” he said. “And we’re going to grow Alabama.”

In his campaign announcement, Tuberville laid out several of his goals for the state, including strengthening local industry, improving education, and creating opportunities to keep young people living and working in Alabama. “We’re going to bring manufacturing to this state… and we’re going to do everything possible to make sure our kids stay in this state and work,” he added.

Strong Support and Clear Path Forward

The race for Alabama’s next governor took a major turn last week when current Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth confirmed he would not seek the office. With that announcement, Tuberville is widely seen as the leading contender in what is expected to be a competitive but likely decisive campaign in the deeply conservative state.

The current governor, Kay Ivey, is term-limited and will leave office after serving two terms. The state has been governed by Republicans since 2003, following the single term of former Democratic Governor Don Siegelman.

Balancing Senate Duties While Campaigning

Although Tuberville is launching his gubernatorial campaign, he made it clear he intends to fulfill his remaining responsibilities in the Senate. “We still have a lot of work to do,” he said, referring to legislative efforts that remain underway. He emphasized his ongoing commitment to Alabama and said he plans to remain active in national matters until his Senate term concludes.

Looking Ahead

Tuberville’s move from the Senate to a state-focused role highlights his continued commitment to Alabama’s future.

Whether on the sidelines of a football field or the floor of the Senate, the former coach says his priority has always been building strong teams and better outcomes.

With the campaign trail ahead, all eyes will be on Alabama as Tuberville sets his sights on the governor’s mansion.
