A small village in Konin County, Poland is in shock after a 32-year-old mother and her two daughters, ages 6 and 8, were discovered dead in a septic tank late Sunday night.
The children’s father raised the alarm after returning home and finding signs of danger. Emergency services launched a major rescue effort with fire crews and divers, but it was too late. The mother was declared dead at the scene, while both children were rushed to hospital and later passed away.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have opened a homicide investigation to determine whether the case was an accident, a crime, or a suspected murder-suicide. Local reports suggest the mother had a history of psychiatric treatment and a note was found in the house, though prosecutors stress no final conclusions have been made.
“This situation is very tragic,” said Sylwia Lewandowska, spokesperson for the Konin Prosecutor’s Office. “It is too early to discuss findings out of respect for the victims’ relatives.”
Community in Mourning
Residents of the village of Helenów Pierwszy described the community as “in shock and great sadness” following the heartbreaking discovery. An autopsy and toxicology tests are scheduled to help confirm the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
