My Date Insisted on Driving Me Home – Here’s What Happened Next

When my brother set me up on a date with his friend Andy, I wasn’t thrilled, but I agreed to go. To my surprise, Andy seemed perfect — charming, thoughtful, and even brought me flowers. Over dinner, he asked about my work, listened attentively, and treated me with kindness. By the end of the night, I started to think maybe he really was different from the disappointing dates I’d had in the past.

Normally, I stick to a rule: no rides home on the first date. But Andy insisted, saying it was the gentlemanly thing to do. Against my better judgment, I agreed. He dropped me off safely and even waited until I was inside before driving away. I went to bed feeling happy and a little hopeful — maybe, just maybe, this was the start of something good.

The next morning, my phone buzzed with a notification that left me speechless: Andy had sent me a payment request. It included charges for gas, parking, and even “car cleaning fees,” totaling over $37. I laughed in disbelief, then sent him $50 with a note that read, “Thirteen-dollar tip for opening my door. Cheers.” After that, I blocked him and sent screenshots to my brother, who was as shocked as I was.

A week later, I saw a TikTok video from another woman sharing a nearly identical invoice — clearly, Andy had a habit of doing this. The comments roasted him, and it was oddly satisfying to know I wasn’t the only one. Looking back, I’m grateful for the experience. It gave me a hilarious story to tell, a good laugh with friends, and a valuable reminder: always trust your gut — and always take your own ride home.
