In the divorce, I didn’t fight for custody of our son or a single penny of his assets; I set only one condition, one he accepted with a cruel smile: that I take his mother with me. He even paid me $5,000 to get rid of that “burden.”

When I divorced Álvaro Rivas, I didn’t fight for the house, the money, or even custody of my son Mateo. After years of legal battles, I was too exhausted.
I accepted limited visits and swallowed my anger—asking for only one thing in return:

“I’m taking your mother.”

Álvaro agreed instantly, even paying me €5,000 to take her away.

His mother, Carmen, had lived with us for years. Frail in appearance but sharp-minded, she remembered everything—especially the lies Álvaro told. That was why he wanted her gone.

We moved into a small apartment and lived quietly. But a month later, Carmen took me to a notary and revealed the truth: she owned 62% of Álvaro’s company. He had only been running it because she allowed it.

That same day, she revoked his power.
What followed was the unraveling of everything Álvaro had built. Together, we uncovered evidence of embezzlement, fake signatures, and misuse of company funds. When Carmen cut him off, panic set in. He lashed out, calling, threatening, and even tried to have her declared mentally unfit.

But he failed.

At court, Carmen spoke with clarity and exposed everything. The judge dismissed his claims, and the investigation moved forward. Around the same time, Mateo arrived frightened after a police raid at his father’s house, and custody was temporarily—and later permanently—granted to me.

Álvaro lost control of the company, his reputation, and eventually faced legal consequences for fraud and breach of trust.
He was banned from managing businesses and forced to repay what he had taken.

Meanwhile, Carmen saved the company, protected its employees, and helped me rebuild a stable life. She didn’t give me wealth—but she gave me security, a home, and a future for Mateo.

In the end, I realized something simple:

I didn’t walk away from the marriage empty-handed.
