Evan arrived at the hospital carrying roses and a rehearsed look of concern, telling a police officer that I had simply fallen because of pregnancy complications. Standing beside him was Marla, wearing my cardigan and acting as if she belonged in my life. They claimed I was emotional, unstable, and imagining things. Financial statements revealed he had quietly transferred thousands of dollars from accounts tied to my inheritance into investments he controlled.
