After being thrown out of her own home, Lena spent the night in the penthouse of Arthur Vale, the elderly stranger who had found her and her daughter sleeping on a bank bench. As Maya enjoyed pancakes and finally felt safe, Lena handed Arthur every document connected to her apartment. The deeper he looked, the quieter he became.

The missed payment had been fabricated, a penalty clause had been inserted after Lena signed, and the notary seal belonged to a woman who had died months before the document was supposedly executed.
