The Price of Splitting the Bill..

Before going to an upscale steakhouse, I told my friend I couldn’t afford a $200 dinner and planned to order something inexpensive. She assured me it wasn’t a problem. While she enjoyed a large steak with several side dishes, I kept my order simple with only a small steak salad.

When it was time to pay, she confidently told the waiter that we would split the bill evenly. Although I had spent far less than she had, I didn’t argue or complain. I simply agreed with her suggestion and stayed quiet.

While she stepped away to the restroom after asking for the check, I quietly called the waiter over and ordered three entrées to go, adding about $120 to the total bill. By the time the check arrived, it came to $280, leaving her surprised by how expensive the meal had become.

We split the bill exactly as she had requested, each paying half. I walked out carrying my packed takeout meals with a smile, feeling I had balanced the situation in my own way. Afterward, I ignored her messages, and the friendship quietly came to an end.
