3-Ingredient Chicken Charleston

There is something comforting about the smell of baked chicken and sweet onions filling the kitchen. This No-Fuss 3-Ingredient Chicken Charleston is designed for an easy, flavorful dinner with very little preparation. The recipe uses just three main ingredients and takes about five minutes of hands-on work, making it ideal for a simple weeknight meal when you want something delicious without spending hours in the kitchen.

You’ll need **6 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs**, **1 large sweet onion**, thinly sliced, and **¾ cup French or Russian dressing**. A little avocado oil or nonstick spray can be used to grease the baking dish. The onions soften as they bake, while the dressing adds a sweet and tangy flavor that helps keep the chicken moist and flavorful.

Preheat the oven to **350°F (175°C)** and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread the sliced onions across the bottom, then place the chicken thighs skin-side up on top. Pour the dressing evenly over the chicken and onions, making sure the pieces are well coated. Bake uncovered for **45–55 minutes**, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of **165°F (74°C)** and the skin is golden and crisp. “The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C), the juices run clear, and the skin is beautifully caramelized and crisp.” Let it rest for **10 minutes** before serving.

Serve the chicken with mashed potatoes, white rice, vegetables, or a fresh salad. The caramelized onions from the bottom of the dish add even more flavor, while parsley, chives, or hot sauce can provide a fresh or spicy finish. The recipe can also be prepared ahead by arranging the chicken and onions in the dish and refrigerating them before baking.

The combination of tender chicken, sweet onions, and tangy dressing creates a rich, comforting meal without complicated preparation. As the original recipe says, “the best food doesn’t need to be complicated; it just needs to be made with a little patience, a lot of love.” It’s an easy dinner with plenty of flavor and very little cleanup.
