The Ritual of the Polished Moment..

Getting my nails done used to feel like a simple moment of self-care—a chance to relax and leave feeling polished. But as salon prices increased, I started wondering how much I should tip. I appreciated the technician’s patience, skill, and attention to detail, yet I didn’t want to feel as though I was spending more than necessary.

One day, I asked my nail technician what most clients usually did. She explained that tipping varies depending on the person and their satisfaction. Some clients leave around 15 percent, others give 20 percent or more, while some simply round up the total. What mattered most, she said, was that the tip showed appreciation without creating pressure.

That conversation helped me realize there is no single “correct” tip. Tipping can be a personal balance between gratitude, the quality of service, and what fits comfortably within your budget. Instead of worrying about whether I was following an exact rule, I began focusing more on enjoying the experience.

In the end, a tip is simply a gesture of thanks for someone’s time, effort, and care. The salon experience became relaxing again once I understood that generosity does not have to follow a strict formula. What matters most is mutual respect, appreciation, and the human connection behind the service.
