After five years at his company, an employee discovered that the boss he had personally trained for two years was earning $140,000 while he earned $65,000, despite being the company’s top performer and receiving no raise or bonus for two years. When his boss dismissed his request for a raise, telling him to “do better,” he asked to meet with the boss’s superior and presented financial records showing a serious salary discrepancy: his boss appeared to have been mistakenly—or improperly—receiving a much higher salary, while the employee had been denied two raises and four bonuses he was supposed to receive.
