How to Properly Open a Bag of Chips

For years, opening a bag of chips seemed simple: grab it, tear the top, and eat. But there’s actually a more convenient way to open it—one that can turn the package into a makeshift serving bowl.
Instead of tearing across the top, place the bag on a flat surface and let the chips settle toward the bottom. Find the center of the front, where the logo is, and carefully tear horizontally across the package. Then fold the loose edges outward and downward. This creates a much wider opening, allowing you to see and reach the chips without digging deep into the bag.

The idea works because a traditional chip bag is tall and narrow. By opening the front and folding it down, you change its shape into a wider container. The chips become easier to grab, making it especially useful during movie nights, parties, picnics, or game days. You don’t need a bowl, scissors, or any special gadget—just the bag itself.

Be careful when trying the trick with a full bag. Tear slowly and avoid squeezing the package, since too much pressure can crush the chips. The goal is to make the snack easier to serve while keeping the chips intact. The method can also work with tortilla chips, cheese puffs, pretzels, crackers, and other snacks packaged in flexible bags.

There’s nothing wrong with the traditional top-tear method, especially if you’re eating alone. This trick is simply a clever alternative when you want easier access or plan to share the snacks. Sometimes the smallest changes make everyday tasks surprisingly convenient.

**“Why didn’t anybody tell me this before?”**
So next time you grab a bag of chips, pause before tearing it open. Opening it from the front might just become your new favorite snack-time trick.
