I went on a date with a guy I had met online, but he barely spoke and kept looking at me in a way I couldn’t understand. As a bigger woman, I immediately assumed he was disappointed by how I looked in person and that we were both just waiting for the date to end. So when the waiter came, I ordered the burger and fries I actually wanted instead of pretending to eat lightly. My date stared at my plate and said, “Seriously?” My heart sank, until he burst out laughing and explained that he’d spent past dates watching women pretend they weren’t hungry, and he had been quietly hoping I would just order what I wanted.
