Tall rods mounted behind pickup truck cabs often serve as external antennas for cellular signal boosters designed to strengthen weak connections in remote regions. These systems use an exterior antenna to bypass metal body interference, routing signals through an internal amplifier to improve coverage for cabin devices. While boosters enhance existing weak signals, they cannot generate cellular service in complete dead zones devoid of any usable network frequency. Not all truck rods are cellular boosters, as similar mounts support CB radios, two-way systems, GPS, or specialized satellite communications equipment.
