Excluded from Christmas dinner by her daughter-in-law Renee to accommodate her mother Patricia, grieving widow Joanne Kessler chose to spend the holiday volunteering at a community center.
Inspired by her late husband Walter’s legacy, Joanne donated her entire $31,000 savings from Walter’s hockey collection to the center’s depleted emergency housing fund to prevent local family evictions.
Her son Adam arrived the next day furious, revealing that he and Renee had secretly counted on those funds to secure housing for Patricia, who was quietly facing job loss and imminent eviction.
On Christmas Day while serving meals, Joanne was stunned to encounter Patricia in line, discovering that her anonymous donation had unknowingly saved Renee’s mother from eviction before she even knew of her plight.
