Jungle Pam Hardy: The Woman Who Became an Icon of America’s Golden Age of Drag Racing

Meeting legendary funny car driver “Jungle Jim” Liberman in 1972, Pam Hardy set aside her college plans to join him on the road. Her high-energy presence, hands-on crew assistance, and undeniable charisma quickly made her a fan favorite and the first woman on Hot Rod cover. Following Jim’s tragic death in a 1977 car crash, Pam chose to retire from professional drag racing rather than team up with another driver. Though her racing career lasted just four years, Jungle Pam Hardy remains a beloved icon of American motorsport history.
