Katie Piper Sounds an Urgent Warning About the Hot Water Bottle Flower

Katie Piper is warning everyone about the dangers of using old hot water bottles. These bottles, first invented in 1903 by Eduard Penkala, used to be made of copper or brass, causing burns.

Even though they’re now made of rubber, they can still be harmful if they’re old.Katie Piper knows about burns firsthand. She suffered from chemical burns a while ago but turned her pain into something positive by creating a charity called the Katie Piper Foundation.

Recently, the foundation warned people about the dangers of old hot water bottles. The warning came after someone shared their story on Instagram. Their hot water bottle burst, causing severe burns and a month-long hospital stay.

The foundation advises checking the expiration date on hot water bottles to avoid accidents. They also gave some safety tips.

Don’t use a worn-out or leaking bottle, always cover it with a cloth to protect your skin, never boil water for it, and only fill it two-thirds full with water. Every hot water bottle sold in the UK has a ‘flower wheel’ marking that shows the manufacturing date.

Even though hot water bottles can be risky if they’re old, they’re still useful for keeping warm. Back in the day, people used metal ones, which caused injuries.

But thanks to Penkala’s rubber design, they became safer and more comfortable for soothing muscles and warming beds.

MY LANDLORD KICKED US OUT FOR A WEEK SO HIS BROTHER COULD STAY IN THE HOUSE WE RENT I’m a single mom of three amazing daughters: Lily (10), Emma (7), and Sophie (5). We rent a small but cozy house. It’s not perfect, but it’s home, and my girls love it here. Last week, I got a call from our landlord, Mr. Peterson. Landlord: “You need to move out for a week. My brother’s visiting, and he needs the house. I don’t care where you go. Not my problem.” Me: “But this is our home! We have a lease—” Landlord: “Don’t start with that lease nonsense. I could’ve kicked you out last time you were late on rent. Be gone by Friday, or maybe you won’t come back at all.” I couldn’t believe it. He didn’t care that I had nowhere to go, no family nearby, and no money for a hotel. He knew I couldn’t risk losing the house, so I packed up. We ended up in a cheap hostel across town. It was noisy and cramped, and my daughters hated it. Sophie cried herself to sleep every night because we’d left her stuffed bunny, Mr. Floppy, at home. By day four, I couldn’t take it anymore. I decided to go back and grab her bunny. When I knocked on the door, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The door opened, and I gasped. My landlord lied. ⬇️
