A Boss Who Chose Integrity..

I was fired on a Tuesday without any warning after giving six years of hard work to the company. The next day, an email from my boss was sent to everyone with the subject, “Let this be a lesson.” Hurt and frustrated, I deleted it without reading, assuming it was meant to embarrass me.

Three days later, a former coworker knocked on my door holding a printed copy of that email. He asked if I had read it, and when I said no, he handed it to me. As I read the message, I realized it wasn’t criticizing me at all.

The email said, “Let this be a lesson to all of you. This company fired someone who gave six years of their life to this place. No warning. No severance. No dignity. Effective immediately, I resign. I refuse to lead a team that treats people like they’re replaceable.” My boss had resigned the very same day I was fired, without telling anyone or seeking recognition.

A week later, I received a call from another company inviting me for an interview. I soon learned that my former boss had quietly recommended me before leaving his position. Losing my job felt like the end, but thanks to someone who valued loyalty and integrity, it became the beginning of a much better opportunity.
